Our
Millennium Bug was produced to commemorate the transition from the
1900's to 2000.
The millennium bug was name given to a glitch in computer hardware
that could have caused serious implications to those devices that
business, government and other bodies of people that would rely
on a computer. The problems stemmed from some computers, particularly
older models, that had the date abbreviated to 2 digits.
It meant that the computers internal clock could not comprehend
turning to 00 (meaning year 2000) from 99 (1999). We saw this as
a sinister little bug that could have upset things. No good was
to come of him so our intention was not to create him as gentle.
The design came from a fossilized vertebrae. The body is glazed
tiki green. His head piece is sand cast bronze that had been patinated
to oxidize the brass surface leaving a black residue. It was then
polished and set to the cork and pouring neck via a hot glue gun.
This hides the pouring neck to 500ml of Bullocks Tawny Port. A blend
from central Victoria. The eyes are red crystal that are set into
the ceramic body.
The Millennium Bug is also holding a clock that has been constructed
of three foils that make up the face of the clock and a crack that
is featured representing moving from an analogue era to a digital
one. Representing his silicon chip is a holograph material placed
3/4 down the unit. Packaged in a wooden box.
